In his introduction to The Invention of Art (2001), author Larry Shiner argues that the modern art system is very different from an older art system that preceded it. On two pages, double-line spacing, explain how Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and Caravaggio’s Calling of St. Matthew were part of “the old art system.” Be sure to provide the dates of the works when you first mention them. Tips for a strong paper:

– It’s always a good idea to write a strong outline before you write your paper. This will ensure that your paper is clear, well organized, and coherent. Remember that the more detailed your outline, the more easily the paper will get written.

– You may not use any material other than your word processing program, class notes, class readings, and this D2L website in any aspect of this paper’s composition.

Finally, note that the Dropbox folder will remain open until 11:59 am (just before noon) on Friday, February 2nd. This means that you must give yourself enough time to upload your file before the 11:59 am cut-off time. Late papers will not be accepted.
