You work for Smartshoes, a global athletic apparel company that manufactures its products in China and Southeast Asia. The company’s president and founder, Grete Waitz, wants to make sure that Smartshoes is a socially responsible corporate citizen. At the same time, of course, she has the company’s shareholders in mind, so she wants to make sure the company remains profitable. She needs your help.

Smartshoes is planning a retreat for its senior staff members to discuss how the company can balance profit with social responsibility. Your boss, Grete Waitz, has asked you to come up with five discussion topics for the retreat’s agenda. For each topic, she would like you to describe the issue and to discuss the ways it could impact the business.
Ms. Waitz would also like you to include an explanation of why you chose these particular topics. Include your explanation at the end of the agenda.
