1st paragraph: MLA style & format

In this first paragraph the writer must introduce the topic by making a thesis statement. A thesis statement is similar to a topic sentence. It is a general statement that tells the reader what you will be writing about

You will address the fact that: you are exploring the different views of freedom through (state document) in American history and how it reflects the periods understanding of the ever-changing definitions of freedom.

– what period?

-what document? Who is writing the document is important ?

-what view of freedom is this document describing and how does it relate to the view of freedom during that time period

Body:

You will give a brief history of the time period that pertains to the document you are analyzing

You will explain the document and who wrote it.

You will analyze the document and give 2 quotes that support your analysis of freedom the document is addressing – give at least three good examples for the view of freedom you are analyzing

You will cite your sources and quotes ?safe for democracy? (Wilson, pg34).

Final Paragraph:

You are not arguing points or still giving more evidence for your analysis?that was all to be done in the body

– Restate the main idea of your essay, or your thesis statement.

– Summarize the points of your essay.

– Leave the reader with an interesting final impression
