1)Writing is a major key point for communication. For example, when we complete applications writing lets the person hiring for the position have an idea of the candidate before they have a chance to meet them and verbally speak with them. Writing is a big part of communication and comprehension in our everyday lives. In policing writing is extremely important because being detailed and accurate about what you are reporting helps in different scenarios such as finding a suspect, piecing together what really happened at the scene of the crime and also prosecuting a suspect if one has been caught on scene and arrested. Completing a police report accurately and writing effectively helps others do their jobs and makes things flow smoothly. If an officer leaves out details or does not write a report accurately it can cause confusion for other departments such as forensics, DA’s, attorneys, etc. Learning these skills early on is better than learning them once you are in your position already helps give you more time and practice rather than jumping straight into something you aren’t familiar with. Writing is a key source in anything you do throughout life.

2)In my opinion, writing overall is a skill we all must have from childhood to our adult life. I say this because writing is the main thing you would need through your whole life. You are filling out applications all the time whether its for school, home ownership, job and most importantly work. Working in the law enforcement field you have to make sure your writing skills are very legible and also your sentences are correct. When making a detail report as a police officer you are taking notes the minute you step on the scene. So you have to make sure that everything is correct. You are taking every word in from witnesses and the evidence that you observed. If someone is giving a description of a suspect, it’s your duty to make sure you write down exactly what the person said or you can potentially let a criminal go free.
