When it comes to abuse, there are no text book symptoms. Many times those patient’s that are undergoing abusive symptoms present with bruises and unexplainable injuries or injuries that don’t match up with what was explained as happening, agression, in children many times there are signs such as inability to focus in school and acting out. In my facility, I am not quite sure on the procedure for this type of situation, but I do know that if something such as this would arise in a patient or if I had suspicians, I would contact my manager and go through the proper chanels to ensure the saftey of the patient as a priority, but also making sure that the situation was being reported to proper authorities after using the facility protocol. For child abuse CPC would be contacted and for elder abuse or domestic violence the police department would be involved. Documentation is key when reporting situations because of evidence needed to prove the abuse.
