Discussion—Psychopathy, Crime, and Recidivism
The empirical links between psychopathy, crime, and both violent and nonviolent recidivism have significantly influenced the applicability of this construct within the criminal and civil justice systems. The Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) is known as the hallmark tool for use in the assessment of psychopathy. This instrument is broken down into various psychopathic traits. It is commonly used in the assessment battery for offenders—particularly when assessing risk for violence and general recidivism. Other abbreviated versions of this tool include the Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version (PCL:YV) and Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version (PCL:SV).
